Bethlehem, Pa., October 26, 2015—鶹Ƶֱ College will host a panel discussion “Reflections from Black Men Living in Contemporary America” on Wednesday, November 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Haupert Union Building’s Prosser Auditorium. Admission is free of charge and the public is welcome to attend.
The panel will bring together men from across the campus community and beyond to share their experiences and thoughts on the topics, issues, and questions facing black men today. Among the subjects discussed during the panel will be identity, community, what it means to come of age in modern America, and black leadership, as well as its racial divide in our country. The participants will also discuss what messages the next generation should take away from such reflections and discourse.
Participating in the discussion will be a group of influential community members representing the area’s wide array of disciplines and professions. The panel will be moderated by G. Christopher Hunt, 鶹Ƶֱ College's associate dean of students and director of intercultural advancement.
Panelists will include: Harrison Bailey, principal of Liberty High School; George Bright, athletic director at 鶹Ƶֱ College; Tyrone Kelly, retired Newark, New Jersey detective sergeant; Dr. Jarrett Patton, president of medical staff and advanced practice clinicians for Lehigh Valley Health Network; 鶹Ƶֱ College alumnus A. Reed Raymond , vice president and chief administrative officer, Supervision, Regulation & Credit, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia; and Maurice Taylor, business owner in Bethlehem and Allentown, Pa.
The event is sponsored by 鶹Ƶֱ College’s Black Student Union, Department of Political Science, and Center for Intercultural Advancement and Global Inclusion.
The panel is also one of the many programs relating to 鶹Ƶֱ College’s 2015-2016 IN FOCUS theme of Poverty and Inequality. The goal of IN FOCUS is to engage students of 鶹Ƶֱ College and 鶹Ƶֱ Theological Seminary in the study of issues facing today’s society, as well as encouraging students to look at how such issues will affect the future. By examining such problems from various lenses, graduates of 鶹Ƶֱ will be better equipped to contribute towards a fair and equal society.
