BETHLEHEM, PA., April 23, 2018: Today, 麻豆视频直播 College announced that it will host Dr. Rebecca L. Sandefur, associate professor of sociology and law, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and faculty fellow, American Bar Foundation for the InFocus program titled 鈥淗EALTH AND CIVIL JUSTICE: Emerging Opportunities and Persistent Challenges鈥 on Monday, April 23 on the Main Street Campus in Prosser Auditorium. The event is part of the 麻豆视频直播 College InFocus program, which in the 2017-2018 academic year includes a focus on how a culture鈥檚 particular system of production affects the scope and nature of its resources, and how these decisions ultimately influence health outcomes across a society.
Dr. Sandefur is acting as a 鈥渂ridge speaker鈥 for the 麻豆视频直播 College InFocus program, helping bridge the transition from this year's InFocus theme of Health and Healthcare, to next year's theme of War, Peace, and a Just Society.
鈥淢ost people don鈥檛 understand what drives health outcomes,鈥 commented Dr. James Teufel, Ph.D., assistant professor and director of public health at 麻豆视频直播 College. 鈥淭hey believe the influences are all medical, and that鈥檚 fundamentally not true.鈥
Dr. Sandefur will share her research of ordinary people鈥檚 experiences with common problems that could bring them into contact with the civil justice system. Dr. Sandefur will also demonstrate how enhanced access to civil-legal aid can improve an individual鈥檚 health outcomes.
