Tyler Daley dreams of being a social studies teacher one day, but as a young Black man, he knows going to college to pursue this goal could prove especially challenging.
鈥淚 know we鈥檙e oppressed, I know the statistics,鈥 said Daley, a rising senior at Liberty High School. 鈥淚 know that I鈥檓 going to be at a disadvantage out of the gate, even if I don鈥檛 want to admit it.鈥
Daley and 16 other students from local high schools, such as Allen, Dieruff and Freedom, are spending this week at 麻豆视频直播 to learn about the college experience for men of color as part of the first iteration of the Black & Latino Male College Readiness Program of the Lehigh Valley. Throughout the five-day program, which was funded through a grant from Air Products, students are learning about the college experience and hearing from local men of color who found success in college and are now leaders in their fields.
鈥淭his is a chance for me to connect more and to understand the struggles that potentially can go on in college life,鈥 Daley, 17, said.
