Post-Bacc Special Education PreK-12 Certification

Becoming a certified teacher is easier than you think! Have your bachelor’s degree? Get your PA-certified teaching license through Â鶹ÊÓƵֱ²¥. Our innovative, inquiry-based program is built to prepare you for the classroom.

The Post-Baccalaureate Special Education PreK-12 program is designed for those interested in teaching children and young adults with disabilities. Our program is designed to guide students as they examine disability through an interdisciplinary, strengths-based perspective that focuses on the social and cultural aspects that may impact academic and social outcomes for children and young adults with disabilities. The sequence of courses allows candidates to employ multiple disciplinary perspectives to enter the special education field as professionals who are knowledgeable, reflective, and informed advocates for families and their children with disabilities.


Outcomes

Students who complete the Special Education PreK-12 certification program can obtain Instructional I teacher certification in Special Education. Graduates from the program may seek career opportunities in public, private, and charter schools in a variety of educational settings serving children and young adults with disabilities.


Curriculum

The Post-Baccalaureate Special Education PreK-12 program consists of ten online synchronous evening special education and one online synchronous evening student teaching seminar course. All courses have been approved by the PA Department of Education. The sequence of courses allows candidates to employ multiple disciplinary perspectives to enter the special education field as professionals who are knowledgeable, reflective, and informed advocates for children/students with disabilities.

Academic Requirements

Candidates for this program are required to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the program. You must have prior written approval from the program coordinator if you plan to complete any of the courses at another institution.

  • 5511  Fundamental Subjects: Content Knowledge - (does not need to be taken if looking to be dually certified)
